Remote/Online Learning Because of Severe Weather  --  On July 29, 2020, Governor Reynolds signed into law Senate File 2310. A specific aspect of SF 2310 is that for the 2020-21 school year only, Iowa school districts are allowed to have remote/online learning days when severe weather cancels in-person learning instead of taking a no school day and having to make it up.
For the 2020-21 school year, the Mason City Community School District will use remote/online learning in place of a regular in-person school day when severe weather prohibits us from having a safe in-person day of school. This flexible learning option is an alternative to canceling school and making the hours up by adding them on to the end of the schoolyear.  Click on the link at the beginning of this article for the complete plan for remote/online learning for 2020-2021 when the district encounters severe weather days.
