Vocational Rehabilitation Services Available
Anyone 16 years of age or over with a physical or emotional impairment which creates a substantial impediment to employment and will require multiple Vocational Rehabilitation services over an extended period of time is encouraged to contact Susan Faber, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, serving Mason City High School. Phone 641-422-1551, ext. 44548 to schedule an appointment to learn more about these services. Examples of diagnoses are asthma, diabetes, cognitive impairments, learning disabilities, neurologic, hearing, speech, orthopaedic, psychiatric, and epilepsy. Examples of services are guidance and counseling, possible training assistance, possible tuition assistance in an approved rehabilitation training program, possible assistance with prosthetic devices, job placement assistance.
New Student Registration
Welcome new students and families to the Mason City Community School District. If you are new to the Mason City community and need to register your student for school, please call Renae Trettin - Administrative Assistant District Academic Student Records - at 641-421-4435 to provide some basic information about your student/s and to schedule an appointment to register for the 2015-2016 school year. Please do this at your earliest convenience. Office staff and teachers are in the buildings preparing for the first day of school and look forward to meeting all of our new students and families and help familiarize them with their new building, classrooms and teachers. 2015-2016 promises to be a very exciting school year!

Iowa Reading Corps Members Recruitment for 2015-2016
Are you looking for an opportunity to further your career with meaning and grow the literacy skills of students. The Iowa Reading Corps AmeriCorps Program are recruiting members for 2015-2016. In the Mason City schools, there are currently three full-time Elementary Literacy Tutor positions with the Iowa Reading Corps AmeriCorps Program. Applications for this program must be completed through the Iowa Reading Corps website (not available through the Mason City Community School District website). Student Directory Information Annual Public Notice
Each year, the Board reviews student directory information and what information will be released to the public as required in Board Policy and Regulations 506.2 and 506.2R1 - Student Directory Information.
The Board reviewed this policy information at their meeting held on Monday, August 17, 2015. The following information may be released to the public in regard to any individual student of the school district as needed. Any student over the age of eighteen or any parent not wanting this information released to the public must make objection in writing by September 15, 2015 to the administrator. The objection needs to be renewed annually.
Name, grade level, enrollment status, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, degrees and wards received, photograph and likeness.
Transportation Annual Notice - Video Cameras on School District Buses
Each year, the Board reviews the information related to video cameras on school district buses. The Board reviewed the policy and regulations at the regular meeting of the Board of Education on Monday, August 17, 2015, and provides the following notice:
The mason City Community School District Board of Directors has authorized the use of video cameras on school district buses. The video cameras will be used to monitor student behavior to maintain order on the school buses to promote and maintain a safe environment. Students and parents are hereby notified that the content of the videotapes may be used in a student disciplinary proceeding. The content of the videotapes are confidential student records and will be retained with other student records. Videotapes will only be retained if necessary for use in a student disciplinary proceeding or other matter as determined necessary by the administration.
